Furniture from Romania: hardwood first, series that fit your order

Romania is one of Europe's largest furniture exporters, and most of what it makes leaves the country. Beech and oak from the Carpathians, factories built for small and mid series, and decades of producing for German, French and Italian brands, often under someone else's label. We open the door to the factories themselves.

What Romania does well in furniture

Solid hardwood, first of all. Beech is the national wood, and Romanian factories have been bending, turning and joining it for a century. Oak, ash and walnut follow. Where western factories moved to panels and veneers, many Romanian plants kept the skills and the machines for solid wood: chairs, tables, bed frames, fronts, staircases.

Series that fit a real order. The typical export factory here runs 20 to 200 people and is comfortable with a batch of 300 chairs or 50 tables a month, made to your drawing, in your finish. That is exactly the size most retailers, contract buyers and interior projects need, and exactly the size the large Polish and Chinese plants don't want.

Upholstered and contract furniture at volume, too. The country's largest exporters make sofas, seating and hotel furniture for European brands, in plants of several hundred people, with their own finishing and upholstery lines.

“Most Romanian furniture already sits in western homes. It just carries a different label. We introduce you to the people who made it.”
