What Romania does well in joinery
Windows that meet the numbers. The workshops we know produce laminated timber windows in 68 and 78 mm sections with triple glazing, and timber-aluminium systems with an aluminium outer shell, in the Uw 0.6 to 1.1 W/(m²K) range. Those are passive-house figures, with European hardware from Roto, Winkhaus or AGB, and CE marking as standard.
Made to order, not from stock. Romanian joinery is craft-scale by western standards: workshops of 15 to 80 people that build each window and door to the project's drawing, in the species, section and finish you specify. That is what makes them useful for renovation and for architecture with unusual formats.
The whole envelope, and the inside. Beyond windows: exterior doors in triple-laminated timber, interior doors, stairs, shutters and built-in joinery. For a renovation or a boutique project you can source the complete timber package from two or three workshops that already work together.
“For a German architect, the question is never whether Romania can make the window. It is who is accountable for it. We are.”
